Sidestreet gift store Light coming through broken windowsA narrow sidestreet cuts through the quiet heart of Yubari, overhead power lines forming a dense web against a grey Hokkaido sky. Timber frame buildings line the deserted path, their corrugated steel facades rusted and buckled. Yubari's coal industry sustained a peak population of around 107,972 before the last mine closed in 1990. Part of the Streetscapes of Yubari series.
